KUCHING, March 17: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg assures the people that there is sufficient food supplies and Covid-19 test kits for Sarawak.

At a press conference held after chairing a Sarawak State Security Council meeting, Abang Johari gave the assurance when asked by the media whether there were enough test kits.

When asked if there is enough food for Limbang as food supplies need to be transported from Miri via Brunei, Abang Johari expressed his optimism that the two-week restricted movement period will not affect food supplies in the division.

“For two weeks, it should be okay, but maybe not up to two months,” said Abang Johari.

On the question of whether students in higher education institutions can return to Sarawak, Abang Johari who is also chairman of the State Security Council said they are free to return but they must observe the 14-day quarantine period.

“Similarly, anyone traveling from town to town in Sarawak, they must also observe the two-week quarantine period at home as per directive.”

For those traveling through a few towns, they have to self-quarantine at the last destination.

When asked whether the family of the 60-year-old pastor from Emmanuel Baptist Church who passed away today could hold a proper funeral service for the deceased, Abang Johari said he would leave the matter to the Ministry of Health to decide.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari revealed he had just returned from meeting with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at Putrajaya and that the drastic steps taken by Sarawak was due to the severity of Covid-19 pandemic. — DayakDaily
