GEDONG, Nov 17: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is contemplating a switch by contesting in the Gedong seat in the coming 12th Sarawak Election.

Speaking at the earth breaking ceremony for Jalan Terenggas to Gedong project at a hall here today, he said he was still considering the move.

“Datuk Naroden (Gedong incumbent Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais) has announced his intention to quit. Thank you to Naroden for giving this opportunity to me.

“But it is still too early as I have not decided whether to move or not. It is hard to reject, it is also hard to accept.

“But I will consider moving and I will need to make a decision. I will also need to inform the people of Satok,” he said.

As the chief minister, Abang Johari stressed that he will look after all areas whether Simunjan, Gedong, Satok or other constituencies.

In the last 11th Sarawak Election in 2016, Abang Johari defended the Satok seat for the eighth consecutive term after defeating his challenger Mohammad Salleh Shawkatali from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) will be holding a meeting this Nov 24 (Wednesday) to decide and fix a date for the 12th Sarawak Election. — DayakDaily
