KUCHING, May 29: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has acknowledged that his ‘ketek’ phrase has gone viral on TikTok.

He shared that he had seen a video featuring a certain part of an Iban song titled ‘Enda Berasai’ by Tracyta Clara, where the singer sang, “ketik, ketik, ketik, ketik aja”.

“After that particular verse, the video shows my face. My will did not do this. This means you can design what you want to portray to the public (on social media).

“However, I have no objection to the edited video. It is good, and I can gain popularity just like the singer,” he said during a high tea with Sarawak-level National Journalists Day (Hawana) 2023 held at Grand Margherita Hotel today.

The phrase “ketek ajak” was once popularised by Abang Johari and is mentioned in almost all his speech to highlight that everything can be settled at one’s fingertips.

“Originally, the ‘ketek ketek’ phrase refers to digitalisation and that everything is one click away.

“Just like an ATM, you just click (sic), and the money is withdrawn from the machine. This is possible due to technology.

“Alhamdulillah, the people can accept the concept of digitalisation to the extent that the ‘phrase’ is included in a song. So I thank the singer for that,” he added.

Amongst those present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Deputy Sarawak Secretary Datu Hii Chang Kee; Chief Political Secretary to the Premier, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman; and UKAS director Samuel Simon. — DayakDaily
