GEDONG, Dec 12: N26 Gedong’s progress will accelerate tremendously with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg as its elected representative, says incumbent Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.

“As one of the rural constituencies, it will be a great opportunity to further boost the development here, similar to others which have benefited from various projects and infrastructure upgrades.

“When you have a chief minister representing a rural seat, this will also allow him to understand and focus better on the needs of our rural folks. Thus, this is why it is necessary for Abang Johari to be the representative in Gedong,” Naroden said.

He was speaking at the ceremony to launch Gedong as a district, some 85km from Kuching.

Naroden added that previously, Gedong was a rural area with no roads and only basic infrastructure.

Slowly, this place grew better by the day and the lives of Gedong residents have clearly changed when it comes to basic amenities such as the construction of good roads to Simunjan and Serian.

Naroden asserts that Abang Johari and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) can ensure not only Gedong’s further growth but that development in the constituency would also spill over into neighbouring districts such as Simunjan, Sebuyau and Samarahan.

“As Abang Johari had previously mentioned, he wants to intensify rural development to reduce the obvious inequality between rural and urban areas, without marginalising anyone.

“This is also why I requested him to contest here. I will continue to assist him in coordinating and ensuring development plans are implemented smoothly,” Naroden said.

In 2016, Naroden won the seat with a majority of 3,365 votes after defeating Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) candidate Rapelson Richard and independent candidate Uja Bans.

In the upcoming election day on Dec 18, Abang Johari, who moved from Satok to contest in Gedong will face Tomson Ango from Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), Mohamad Sofian Fariz Sharbini from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and Kamal Bujang from Amanah. — DayakDaily
