KUCHING, Dec 9: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for N12 Kota Sentosa Candidate Wilfred Yap Yau Sin assures Kota Sentosa constituents that voting for him is a vote for transparency.
According to Yap, as a GPS candidate, he is committed to the ideals of a transparent government and pledged to be transparent with the people of Kota Sentosa to secure their “buy in” to achieve people-centric targets, if given the mandate to represent them.
“Should we (GPS candidates) get the trust of the voters, we pledge to provide our constituents a full report card detailing all that we have or have not accomplished.
“We take a leaf from the press conference by Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting yesterday, where he detailed every single detail of the work he accomplished in the last five years (as Piasau assemblyman).
“As such we are inspired to engage with our constituents to secure buy-in or involvement of the community in the solutions we endeavour to prescribe and implement,” he said in a statement today.
Yap pointed out that as an example, simple ideas of direct democracy can be implemented, such as poll-taking, town hall meetings and with the digital age, online meetings, to get the feedback on how the public want their problems solved.
“So, before we take up a big project in our area perhaps a poll can be taken to decide if we do it or not; the design and layout of the project can have direct input as well.
“We believe that with the buy-in to our proposals secured, we are assured of a successful project because the mere implementation of it will be “the success” as the people will be well aware it is happening during the process of securing the buy-in.
“Through the fulfillment of these two pledges that we have made, we hope to achieve what we believe to be a people-centric administration of Kota Sentosa in 2021-2026,” he added.
Meanwhile, Yap said it is a shame that the N12 Kota Sentosa incumbent Chong Chieng Jen had moved to another constituency to contest because the people of Kota Sentosa deserve a report card especially since there was a period of 22 months when he was a government representative and a deputy minister in the federal government.
He opined that the reason for Chong moving away from Kota Sentosa is that he (Chong) would not have as impressive a report card to show to his constituents.
In the coming 12th State Election (PRN12), Yap is facing a five-cornered fight against Micheal Kong Feng Nian from Democratic Action Party (DAP), Lau Phang Heng from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Tan Kok Chiang from Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) and Lue Cheng Hing from Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK). — DayakDaily
