KUCHING, Dec 25: No official religion in Sarawak means that all religions are freely practised, and major festivals such as Christmas can be celebrated in peace and harmony.
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak Information chief Abun Sui Anyit said the party respects the freedom of religion in Malaysia as enshrined in Article 11 of the Federal Constitution.
“This includes honouring Christians celebrating Christmas every year.
“Everyone is encouraged to join in the celebration together. That is why December 25 is a public holiday every year given by the government,” he said in his Christmas Day message today.
He explained that Christmas is not just a celebration and a time for families to gather but also a time to bring oneself and our families closer to God.
“PKR Sarawak wishes to take this opportunity to wish a Merry Christmas to the people of Sarawak. May all be blessed and protected during this Christmas celebration.
“May this Christmas also bring the blessing of salvation to all who believe in accordance with the teachings of love to all,” he said. ― DayakDaily
