Man gets 1 year in jail for hitting ex-wife with helmet

KUCHING, July 13: The Sessions Court here sentenced a man to one year imprisonment to a charge of hurting his former wife with a helmet because he suspected his former wife had an affair with another man.

Zolkepli Marelee pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 326A of the same Code, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years or with fine or with whipping, upon conviction.


Sessions Court Judge Maris Agan convicted him as charged and sentenced him to an imprisonment of one year, with effect from today.

He was found to have caused hurt to his former 35-year-old Filipino wife with a helmet, at the victim’s friend’s house which located in Taman Malihah, at about 1pm on April 27, 2022.

According to the brief facts of the case, the accused hit the victim with a helmet repeatedly and caused injuries to her head, back of her shoulders and left arm.

A subsequent police investigation also found that the accused was unsatisfied because of their family matters and suspected the victim had had an affair with another man.

Both the accused and victim divorced about a year ago. They have three children aged between 12 and 6-years-old.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurfadzlin Mahmad Zulhasnan prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
