MIRI, Nov 7: Sarawak prefers to quietly deliver development projects rather than make noise about its achievements, with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg saying the State is undertaking many projects without relying entirely on the federal government.
“One thing is that many of our projects are not entirely dependent on Putrajaya. We are doing them on our own.
“We don’t make noise. We don’t shout. We just quietly get things done,” he said when officiating at the opening of the FORUM Cultural Centre here today, which was streamed live on Facebook by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
As an example, Abang Johari said Sarawak had built 21 bridges over a period of six years.
“Just look at the bridges. In six years, we built 21 of them. Quietly, we got the work done,” he said.
He likened Sarawak’s approach to that of a turtle, contrasting it with what he described as other places being preoccupied with making noise on social media platforms such as TikTok and Facebook.
He said Sarawak’s focus was on delivering development, while also recognising the importance of keeping up with technological changes.
At the same time, he said securing funds for development was a key responsibility of the Premier and Cabinet, stressing that those entrusted with leadership must know how to generate revenue and secure financing for the people’s benefit.
“If you want to be Premier, you must know how to find money. You must be capable of securing funds, developing the State and developing the people,” he said.
He said Sarawak’s revenue had doubled over the nine years of his administration, adding that the increased revenue was being channelled back to the people.
“Thank God, within nine years, I have doubled Sarawak’s revenue, and I give it back to you,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
