KUCHING, May 1: A nine-year-old pupil who visited a longhouse at Batu 25, Jalan Miri-Bintulu has tested positive for Covid-19 and is the index case of a new cluster after the virus spread to 90 other individuals, leading to the formation of the Batu 25 Cluster in Bintulu.
According to reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Batu 25 Cluster is a community cluster which involves a longhouse at Batu 25, Jalan Miri-Bintulu.
The committee said the index case, case 31,098 is a nine year old pupil who was identified through symptomatic screening at a private clinic on April 22.
It was believed that the pupil had visited the longhouse at Batu 25 with family members on April 17 while having symptoms of Covid-19.
Targeted active case detection was conducted on villagers of the longhouse which resulted in 90 individuals testing positive for Covid-19.
At present, a total of 198 individuals linked to the cluster have been screened for Covid-19.
Out of that amount, 95 tested positive, 101 tested negative and two are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test.
SDMC today announced that there were four new clusters of Covid-19 identified.
They are the Batu 25 Cluster in Bintulu, Long Jegan Cluster in Beluru, Sungai Mas Cluster in Sebauh and Sungai Nirai Cluster in Selangau.
The addition of four new clusters has pushed the number of active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak to 79 clusters.
Out of the 79 clusters, 16 clusters reported an increase of 117 new cases while 63 clusters did not report new cases. — DayakDaily
