KUCHING, June 8: Chim Kah Qing, a nine-year-old girl who suffers from aplastic anemia, a condition in which her body no longer produces blood, rendering medication ineffective, is unable to survive without a bone marrow transplant from her single-parent mother and needs RM400,000 to undergo the procedure as soon as possible.
Chimās body has developed blood spots, blood vessels, bloodstains, and blood clots, which have caused concern because her body is unable to produce blood and is being damaged continuously.
Danny Tan from Malaysian Da Ai Charity Association’s publicity group said Chimās mother, Gan Swee Ying, is filled with fear and confusion due to her daughterās condition. The doctor has advised Gan to have her daughter undergo a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible to save her life. However, the cost of RM400,000 for the transplant which Gan could not afford had left her in tears of desperation.
Tan said if Chim does not receive timely surgery, her organs will bleed excessively and fail, resulting in a vegetative state and death.
āI cannot bleed, cannot be cut, and cannot fall. So I didnāt go out to play. Iām angry that I have this illness,ā Chim said, according to a press statement from Da Ai.
Tan pointed out that Chimās childhood, which should have been full of joy and liveliness, forced her to be mature, as she no longer wishes to go out and play because she has to constantly reminds herself not to fall.
āWhen we see the countless needle marks on her body, we cannot imagine what she has been through.
āThough she still appears young, she knows everything. She also holds onto what her mother tells her: āBe happy every day, and donāt be sad.ā
āEach day, she strives to prevent her mother from being saddened. At such a tender age, she already feels empathy for her mother,ā he added.
According to Tan, Gan wants to donate her bone marrow to save her daughterās life, since only her marrow is compatible.
āMs Gan is racing against time, unable to sleep due to her daughterās condition.
āShe has already given up her job as a hairstylist to take care of her child at home because, in addition to her daughterās critical condition, she has a 14-year-old disabled son who requires special attention.
āAs a result, the cost of the surgery remains unattainable, and there were moments when she considered giving up. However, when she thinks of her children, she chooses to be stronger and persevere,ā he added.
Tan revealed that Gan pleaded with Da Ai to organise a crowdfunding campaign to cover the costs of Chimās surgery, appealing to generous individuals for immediate assistance.
āEvery little donation from kind-hearted individuals is a tremendous source of encouragement and assistance, enabling her and her daughter to feel the warmth, love, and hope of society,ā he said.
