90yo man dies after crashing car into KFC at Jalan Ling Kai Cheng

SIBU, Dec 26: A nonagenarian lost his life after crashing his car into the door of a KFC fast food restaurant at the Jalan Ling Kai Cheng today.

In the 9.30am incident, the 90-year-old victim, who had existing health problems, was rushed by members of the public to Sibu Hospital.

Sibu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Zulkipli Suhaili said, at the time of the incident, the victim, who was driving a new Proton Saga had just finished refueling and wanted to continue his journey.


“The victim is believed to have suffered from health problemsand shortness of breath just after refueling and had stepped on the gas pedal until the car he was driving moved forward with considerable momentum and crashed into the door of a KFC outlet.

“The gas station worker then opened the car door and found a male driver who appeared to be suffocating,” he said.

He added that members of the public who were at the location then helped send the victim to the hospital to receive treatment.

“However, the victim died at 10.16am at the Emergency and Trauma Unit of Sibu Hospital,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 for reckless driving which results in death. — DayakDaily
