KUCHING, Dec 30: The Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society Sarawak (CHKMUS) has taken a significant step towards advancing healthcare and community services with the launch of its upcoming 9-storey Kidney Foundation Medical and Commercial Building.
The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the site in Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho here today.
The ambitious project will house a state-of-the-art kidney treatment facility, including dialysis services to serve over 320 patients, as well as commercial spaces aimed at generating sustainable revenue to support its operations.
Construction of the building is expected to be completed within the next few years, with the aim of significantly increasing the accessibility and quality of kidney treatment services in the region.
Speaking at the event, Abang Johari lauded CHKMUS for its dedication to improving public healthcare and providing accessible medical services.
On behalf of the Sarawak government, he said it has provided 32 dialysis machines to selected facilities recommended by government hospitals, to address the rising number of kidney patients in the State.
“We have provided 32 dialysis machines to selected centres, and Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah (Sarawak Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development) frequently requests additional machines.
“I told her, ‘You can add more machines, but at the same time, we need to educate people to take care of their health.’
“Adding machines is not a problem, but the increase in demand indicates that more people are falling ill,” he said in his speech.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Federal Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi; Sarawak Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah; Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng; CHKMUS Kidney Foundation founder and chairman Datuk Tay Chin Kin; and the ceremony’s organising chairman Cr Eric Tay. — DayakDaily
