LAWAS, June 27: An 89-year-old man was killed in a fire that destroyed a house located behind a car workshop in Lawas in the early hours of today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in Lawas received an emergency call at 4.18am, prompting the immediate dispatch of a 14-member team to the scene, located just two kilometres from the station.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a terrace house with semi-permanent structures was fully engulfed in flames and had been completely destroyed.
The charred remains of the elderly victim were found at the scene and handed over to the police for further action.
Two other occupants—a 32-year-old man and a 31-year-old man—managed to escape the blaze unharmed.
Firefighters extinguished the fire using water from the fire engine’s onboard tank. The operation was declared over at 6am after the team confirmed there were no remaining sources of ignition and that the site was safe. — DayakDaily
