850 police personnel to be deployed at various locations on Malaysia Day

KUCHING, Sept 12: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will deploy about 850 personnel to safeguard the city on Sept 16, as they are expecting more than 6,000 Malaysians and overseas visitors to join the Malaysia Day 2019 celebration here.

Kuching District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said officers of various ranks will be placed at several major hotels and tourist locations in the city, including Kuching International Airport.

The celebration will now be held indoors at Stadium Perpaduan instead of Padang Merdeka as originally planned, due to the haze situation in the city which is expected to prevail until the end of this month.

Scheduled to begin at 7pm, the celebrations is a continuation of the National Month and the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaigns.

“Several roads will be closed from 6pm until the event finishes. The roads affected are at the Kasuma Resort roundabout, stadium roundabout, Jalan Diplomatik, Jalan Stadium, entrance to Kampung Stadium and the shooting range,” he said in a press conference today.

Members of the public who wish to join the celebration are encouraged to use public transport.

“However, to those who plan to drive on their own, please be reminded that you must park your vehicle at the proper parking lots provided in Zone A, B, C and D,” he warned, adding that traffic police personnel will take action on those who park their vehicles on the road side. ā€” DayakDaily
