KUCHING, Sept 12: The head of an 80-year-old man, who was believed to have been attacked by a crocodile while bathing at the river near Kampung Siang-Siang Laut in Trusan, Lawas, was found on Wednesday (Sept 10).
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the head was found about 500m from where the victim was reported missing.
On Thursday (Sept 11), following the discovery of the victim’s head by villagers the previous night and confirmation by the family, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was closed.
“Subsequent operations would focus on locating and capturing the crocodile, led by Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) officers with police assistance,” said the report.
Based on the chronology of events, on Tuesday (Sept 9), the victim, Tuah Lamat, went out to bathe at the river but did not return, which prompted his family to search for him, where a towel and slippers believed to have belonged to the victim were found.
Villagers attempted to conduct their own search for the victim but were unable to locate him. — DayakDaily
