8,000 join Sibu Christmas Procession 2022

SIBU, Dec 11: After a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19, the annual Sibu Christmas Procession made a comeback on Saturday night (Dec 10).

A massive crowd of 8,000 comprising participants and members of the public converged at the town square as early as 5pm for the procession, which started at 6pm.


Organised by the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) Sibu branch, the procession’s theme was ‘A Saviour Has Been Born’.

The procession started from the town square to Jalan Bujang Suntong, Jalan Pulau, Jalan Channel, Jalan Mission, Jalan Kampung Nyabor, Jalan Central, Jalan Wong Nai Siong, Jalan Kampung Nyabor, Raminway, and ended at Jalan Kampung Nyabor.

In his speech, ACS Sibu branch chairman Reverend Jonathan Lau Puong Fuang expressed appreciation that the procession could be held after two years of absence.

“I am grateful and full of joy because this year, we can physically gather at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang to attend the Sibu Christmas Procession,” said Lau.

In addition, the Christmas message was delivered by the Sibu District Superintendent of BEM, Pastor Yahya Ating, while the Bishop of Sarawak Chinese Annual Conference (SCAC), Bishop Dr Lau Hui Ming, gave his sermon. — DayakDaily
