BINTULU, March 18: Eighty Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) school leavers from SMK Belaga and SMK Bakun are participating in the ‘Jom Ke Institut Pengajian Tinggi’ programme in Kuching from March 18 to 21.

Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chuk Pai Ugon said the annual initiative was the fifth one to be organised for students from the area.

“The ‘Jom to IPT’ programme, previously known as ‘Jom Masuk U’, aimed to expose and give direction to SPM school leavers to pursue their studies to a higher level,” said Kennedy when welcoming the students from Belaga, where they later headed for Kuching in two buses.

The programme is carried out in collaboration between Belaga Youth Club Sarawak (KBBS), Apau Koyan Youth Club (KBAK), Kuching Polytechnic, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Sarawak Energy Berhad, Institut Perguruan Tun Abdul Razak (IPGTAR), Centre of Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) Samarahan Campus, ICATS, PPKS and the Belaga and Murum elected representatives’ service centres.

Kennedy welcomes the students in Bintulu today (March 18, 2019) before they proceeded by bus to Kuching.

According to him, since the programme started, a total of 500 students from Belaga District had been able to pursue their studies in institutions of higher learning across the country.

“This programme is also the effort of two service centres in view of the fact that SMK Belaga is under the Belaga state constituency, while SMK Bakun is under the Murum state seat,” he revealed.

Kennedy said he and Assistant Minister for Water Supply cum Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang would be with the students until March 21.

He hoped the participating students would use this opportunity to gain knowledge and share their experience with those who could not take part. — DayakDaily
