80% of welfare assistance for 2019 was from federal: Dr Yii

Dr Kelvin Yii

KUCHING, Jan 23: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said a total of RM146,320,080 in assistance was allocated by the federal government last year for distribution by Welfare Department for those in need in Sarawak.

According to Dr Yii, it was 80 per cent of the total allocation of RM 183,989,980 that was allocated by the Sarawak government claimed by the Minister of Welfare, Community Welbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

“This shows that the federal government is concerned with the plight and issues faced by the poor in Sarawak and will continue allocations directly to the people through money saved from good governance and anti-corruption measures,” said Dr Yii in a press statement today.

He was responding to a statement made by Fatimah during her address at a Sejambak Kasih-Chinese New Year event recenty that the Sarawak Government last year allocated RM 183,989,980 in welfare assistance for distribution by Welfare Department.

Dr Yii also pointed out that the Sarawak government only allocated a total of RM 37,669,900, which is 20 per cent of the total allocation.

“So for her to claim and take credit claiming that such allocations are purely from the State Government is untrue, and maybe a deliberate act to mislead the public,” he said. —DayakDaily.
