80 MCO violators arrested in Sarawak

KUCHING, Apr 23: A total of 80 individuals have been arrested throughout the state for flouting the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Dev Kumar in a statement said that the arrest was made over a period of 12 hours since 8 am yesterday until 8 am today.

According to Dev Kumar, a total of 73 individuals had also been charged in court for their offense.

“Kuching recorded the highest number of arrests (36 individuals), followed by Miri (16), Kota Samarahan (6), and Padawan (5).

“Sarikei, Betong and Mukah also recorded four arrests each, including three in Simunjan, one in Limbang and another one in Meradong,” he said.

Dev Kumar also noted that, 20 individuals were charged in Sibu, including 19 in Kuching, and eight each in Limbang and Simunjan, follow by Lundu (5), Padawan (5), Miri (3), Betong (2), Lubok Antu (1) and Saratok (1).

“This brings the total number of individuals arrested since Mar 18, 2020 to 1,493, and the total number of individual charged in court to 932,” he added.—DayakDaily.
