8 deaths associated to wedding Bungey 2 Cluster as it adds 80 more cases overnight

KUCHING, Sept 7: Eight deaths have been linked to the wedding Bungey Cluster in Betong so far as it continues to grow with another 80 cases added over the past 24 hours.

With that, the cluster has so far reported 1,105 cases, out of which 524 are still active cases.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily updates on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today, revealed that it is among 33 active clusters which recorded an increase in infections with a total of 404 cases contributed to today’s caseload of 3,200.


A total of 1,350 people linked to the Bungey Cluster have been swabbed, whereby 44 have tested negative while 201 are still waiting for laboratory test results.

Second in the list with a high number of new cases is KM20 Jalan Betong Cluster, also in Betong, which registered 60 more cases to push the cluster’s total to 353, out of which 345 are still active cases.

This is a workplace cluster involving the workers’ quarters of a construction company.

A total of 500 individuals have been swabbed, out of which 43 have tested negative and 104 are still waiting for lab test results.

The new community clusters declared today namely the Bukit Barun Cluster in Tatau and Beruru Cluster in Pakan also recorded double-digit new infections with 51 cses and 43 cases respectively.

The remaining clusters which added more cases include Kampung Kakeng Cluster in Serian (35 cases); Long Urun Cluster in Belaga (22 case); Duras Cluster in Serian (14 cases), Galaxy Cluster in bintulu (12 cases); new Sungai Setulai Cluster in Sebauh (11 cases); new Sungai Tangap Cluster in Subis (10 cases); Tanah Mawang Cluster in Serian (9 cases); Kampung Goebilt Cluster in Kuching (8 cases); Kampung Simpok Cluster in Serian and Mapu Cluster in Tebedu (7 cases each); and Belinggai Ulu Niah Cluster in Subis, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman Cluster in Sibu, Kampung Muara Tebas 2 Cluster in kcuhing, Mas Sawai Cluster in Subis and Sawit 16 Cluster in Beluru (3 cases each).

The clusters that registered two additional cases today are Jalan Usaha Jaya Dua Cluster in Kuching, Kampung Sikog Cluster in Kuching, Maxbi Libai Cluster in Subis, Merajang Cluster in Limbang, Nanga Pelugau Cluster in Selangau and Sungai Menok Cluster in Beluru.

The clusters that registered one additional case are Bandar Baru Mukah Cluster in Mukah, Jalan Masuri Cluster in Sibu, Lubok Bukut Cluster in Mukah, Menuang Baru Cluster in Limbang, Nansang Tugong Cluster in Pakan, Tanjong Kibong 2 Cluster in Sibu, Annah Rais Cluster in Kuching and new Kampung Pinang Jawa Cluster in Kuching.
