77yo woman found dead after fire destroys 17 squatter homes in Bintulu

KUCHING, April 7: The body of a 77-year-old woman was found following a fire that broke out at Jalan Tanjung Kidurong, Sungai Plan, in Bintulu today.

According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), an emergency call was received at 11.06am, and firefighters from the Kidurong and Bintulu stations were deployed and managed to control the fire by 12.03pm.

As a result of the fire, 17 squatter houses were destroyed, affecting 94 people, of whom 66 are adults and 28 are children.

The deceased, identified as Nuie Ipang, was found at the scene of the incident. Her remains were handed over to the police at 2.12pm for further action.

The operation ended at 2.50pm once firefighters ensured the site was safe with no risk of reignition. — DayakDaily
