KUCHING, Jan 23: A search and rescue (SAR) operation that began after a 75 year old Iban woman went missing from her longhouse in Engkelili has ended tragically with her body found downstream by local villagers.
Melaya Brayun, a resident of Tr Alow, Kampung Bua, was last seen at about 1 am on Wednesday (Jan 21) near the house of a local villager named Usang after leaving her longhouse.
When she failed to return, family members and neighbouring residents conducted initial searches around the longhouse but were unable to find her.
According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), members of the public who were fishing reported finding a body near Stuga Bridge, approximately 7 or 8 km from Melaya’s last known point at about 11.13am today.
“Bomba rescue teams reached the location swiftly and transported the body back to the village longhouse.
“Melaya’s identity was confirmed by her family before the body was handed over to police for further action,” the report read. – DayakDaily
