74 yo woman latest Covid-19 fatality in Sarawak, death toll rises to 1,630

KUCHING, Feb 28: A 74-year-old woman with high blood pressure is the latest Covid-19 death reported in Sarawak.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, the elderly woman from Sibu passed away on Feb 26.


The case marks the 1,630th death due to Covid-19 in Sarawak since 2020.

Meanwhile, Kuching and Miri accounted for over half of the 442 new Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak today.

By district, Kuching reported 192 cases, followed by Miri (101), Sibu (69), Bintulu (16), Kapit (13), Samarahan (9), Mukah (8), Dalat (7), Sarikei (5), Lundu (3), Bau (3), Saratok (2), Kanowit (2), Song (2), Meradong (2), and Tatau (2).

Lawas, Serian, Pakan, Sri Aman, Daro and Selangau districts recorded one case each.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 259,812.

Of the new cases reported, 241 cases were classified under Category 1 (asymptomatic) and 199 cases under Category 2 (mild symptoms).

The remaining two cases are classified as critical and comprise a Category 4 patient who needs oxygen supply and a Category 5 patient who needs a ventilator to breathe.

Members of the public are reminded to continue observing Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) as the fight against the pandemic has not been won yet. — DayakDaily
