SIBU, Oct 25: A 71-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a group of men who were allegedly fighting over a debt took to public roads in a car chase yesterday.
Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said at about 6.45am, the police received information concerning a fight going on in Lorong Wong King Hou.
“A team of police officers rushed to the scene and apprehended five men aged between 17 to 30,” he said.
Two vehicles as well as weapons used in the fight were also seized from the suspects.
Zulkipli said initial police investigation found that the fight was due to debt problems between the two groups.
“Before the fight, there was a chase between two vehicles of the suspects. One of the cars hit a motorcycle on Jalan Alan, resulting in the death of a 71-year-old male motorcyclist,” he said.
A urine test conducted on all suspects came back positive for the drugs amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine, benzo and morphine.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting using
weapons and if convicted can be imprisoned for up to five years, or with fine, or both.
He said the death of the motorcyclist is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
