MUKAH, Jan 29: A 70-year-old man was reported missing after he failed to return home from collecting ‘umbut’ (palm shoots) in the forest near Rh Bonnie here since yesterday (Jan 28).
According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a call about the missing man at 7.40am today and subsequently deployed a team of firefighters from Mukah Fire Station to the scene.
Based on the chronology of events, the elderly man was one of eight people who went into the forest to collect ‘umbut’ at 11am yesterday.
“Around 2pm, seven of them returned home except the victim.
“The local folk then started a search for the victim in the forest but he was nowhere to be found.
“Following this, they lodged a police report for further action,” Bomba reported. — DayakDaily
