KUCHING, Feb 11: Seven new Novel Coronavirus Patient Under Investigation (PUI) cases were reported in Sarawak as of 10.30am today.
Of these, three are at the Sarawak General Hospital, two in Bintulu and one each in Sibu and Miri.
The new cases include a Canadian tourist who arrived at Mulu Airport but who was then referred to Miri Hospital after screening by a state Health Department team.
The cumulative number of PUI cases as of today in the state stands at 67.
They comprise 49 Malaysians, 15 Chinese nationals, one Thai, one Indonesian and one Canadian.
“However, 51 had tested negative for the Novel Coronavirus infection while 16 cases are still awaiting laboratory testing results,” according to a statement issued by the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat here today.
The statement added that for those waiting for test results, nine are Malaysian (eight at Sarawak General Hospital and one at Sibu Hospital), five Chinese nationals (three at Sarawak General Hospital and two at Bintulu Hospital), one Thai national (Bintulu Hospital) and one Canadian at Miri Hospital.
It also reported that as of yesterday, the Health Department managed to screen some 5,984 arrivals at various air, land and sea entry points state-wide.
“The Health Department again advises those who have fallen sick (fever, coughing and breathing difficulty) within 14 days after returning from China to seek immediate medical treatment. They must inform the doctors treating them of their travel history,” the committee advised.
