7 new Covid-19 clusters involving 333 cases surface in Kuching

KUCHING, Aug 4: Seven new Covid-19 clusters were identified in Kuching involving a total of 333 people who have tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, the clusters are Kampung Bintawa Hilir Cluster, Kampung Jawa Cluster, Kampung Bunuk Cluster, Kampung Bintawa Tengah Cluster, Kampung Semban Cluster, Kampung Haji Baki Cluster and Jalan Airport Cluster.


Kampung Bintawa Hilir Cluster located in Petra Jaya encompasses 159 villagers who tested positive for Covid-19, the highest number of cases among all the new clusters.

This was followed by the Kampung Jawa Cluster at 12th Mile of the Kuching-Serian road with 47 villagers who tested positive and the Kampung Bunuk Cluster located at Jalan Puncak Borneo with 46 villagers who tested positive.

There were 30 villagers from the Kampung Bintawa Tengah Cluster at Petra Jaya, 23 villagers from the Kampung Semban Cluster located at Bengoh, Padawan and 16 villagers from Kampung Haji Baki located at Jalan Pekan Batu Kitang who tested positive.

Apart from that, 12 employees of a hotel located along Jalan Airport were also confirmed positive for Covid-19.

Five of the seven new clusters, namely Kampung Bintawa Hilir Cluster, Kampung Bintawa Tengah Cluster, Kampung Bunuk Cluster, Kampung Haji Baki Cluster and Kampung Jawa Cluster, have been placed under lockdown.

SDMC said all the Covid-19 patients from the seven clusters have been admitted into various health facilities in Kuching for treatment.

On the other hand, the Gran Stumbin Cluster in Sri Aman and Lorong 3 Kampung Siol Kandis Cluster in Kuching were declared ended.

There are 89 active clusters in Sarawak out of which 10 reported 117 new cases today. — DayakDaily
