6yo boy dies in fatal crash on Miri Coastal Road

MIRI, March 12: A six-year-old boy died from his injuries after the four-wheel-drive (4WD) he was travelling in with his parents was involved in a head-on collision with another car on Saturday morning.

According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the vehicles collided at KM17 of the Miri Coastal Road around 8am.

“The boy died on the spot at the scene,” he said.

Meanwhile, seven others sustained injuries and have been taken to Miri Hospital for further treatment.

“Preliminary investigation showed that the 4WD had swerved head-on into the Perodua Alza coming from the opposite lane,” he said.

Three of the 4WD’s passengers, including the boy, were thrown out off the vehicles.

Prior to the fatal crash, the boy’s family was heading towards Miri from Bekenu.

The deceased has been identified as Aiden Chiang Yong Jun.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1)of the Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
