KUCHING, Aug 8: The Sarawak Children’s Festival (SCF) is making its much-anticipated return for the sixth edition, promising a blend of amusement, education, and delight for children aged between four to 12 years.
Organised by the Sarawak Library, this annual festival will unfold across the Sarawak Library campuses in Kuching on Aug 19 to 20, followed by Miri (Aug 26-27), and Sibu (Sept 2-3).
The SCF offers an array of enriching activities that are free of charge.
According to a press release, this enthralling event will feature an extensive array of engaging activities encompassing the domains of STEAM education, junior vendor showcases, immersive, hands-on experiences, and captivating storytelling sessions.
Eminent storytellers from Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, and Brunei have been specially invited to captivate young minds alongside talented local storytellers.
The Kuching campus alone will host 11 diverse activity spaces, including Storyspace, Gastrospace, Makerspace, Fauna Space, Myhero Space, Marketspace, Performance & Cultural Space, Lestari Space, Gamespace, and Artistic Space.
The Miri campus will house 12 activity spaces, while the Sibu campus will feature eight.
Simultaneously, it will inaugurate ‘Wendy’s House’, a children’s playhouse generously donated by Jo Williams from the Book Trust in the United Kingdom, in memory of the late Wendy Cooling.
Wendy Cooling, a teacher, writer, and anthologist, was renowned for founding Bookstart, a prominent programme under Book Trust. Wendy’s House will be stocked with children’s books, many of which are authored by Wendy Cooling. The space will also host various reading programmes for children and parents alike.
The festival will also include exciting elements such as lucky draws and free ice cream for the first 200 attendees over the two-day event at the Sarawak Library Kuching.
The festival’s primary objectives encompass nurturing children’s curiosity in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), introducing children to the library as an essential information and reference hub, fostering a culture of learning and knowledge through recreational pursuits, and nurturing a love for reading among youngsters.
