MIRI, Oct 21: A man was killed following a single-vehicle crash on Jalan Miri-Bintulu yesterday.
The 69-year-old man, who was involved in the accident at around 2.05pm, succumbed to his injuries two hours later.
Miri Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed the incident today.
The crash occurred near Borneo Medical Centre and involved a Perodua Myvi, which the man had been driving from the city centre.
According to police, the car veered to the right and collided with a tree on the road divider.
The impact severely damaged the front of the vehicle.
The driver sustained serious injuries to his right leg and abdomen and was rushed to Miri Hospital for treatment.
Despite efforts to save him, the man was pronounced dead at 4.36pm in the hospital’s emergency ward.
Police have opened an investigation into the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
