Covid-19 death toll in Sarawak rises to five

Covid-19 deaths and positive cases recorded in Sarawak as of 5pm, March 23, 2020.

KUCHING, March 23: Sarawak today recorded two more deaths from Covid-19, raising the number of deaths in the state to five.

The State Disaster Management Mommittee in a statement revealed one of the victims is a 49-year-old man from Kuching. He was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital on March 18 where he was confirmed positive Covid-19.

He is the son of a 79-year-old woman and the brother to a 40-year-old woman who also succumbed to the coronavirus on March 18 and March 21 respectively.


The second victim is a 51-year-old woman from Limbang.

She was a close contact of a member of the Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling “Tabligh” gathering in Kuala Lumpur.

She was admitted to the Limbang hospital on March 14 and was medivac to Miri Hospital the same day. She also tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah disclosed six new Covid-19 positive cases were recorded today.

“All of them are from Kuching and the patients have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital. The state now has an accumulation of 827 Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases of which 718 cases are negative. Seventy-two cases are still awaiting laboratory test results,” Uggah added.

He urged the public to continue to observe the Movement Control Order (MCO) and to stay at home, practise social distancing and keep the highest standards of personal hygiene. — DayakDaily
