Bintulu, Nov 18: A fatal road accident at Batu 15, Jalan Bintulu-Miri, claimed the life of a 66-year-old school van driver earlier this evening.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported receiving a distress call at 7:06 PM regarding a collision between a worker transport van (Isuzu Urvan) and a school van (Nissan Urvan).

According to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Isuzu Urvan carried nine passengers, while the Nissan Urvan had 16 occupants at the time of the accident.

“Firefighters used air lifting bags and rescue tools to extricate the school van driver, who was trapped in the wreckage.

“Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel,” the report stated.

Other victims were either treated on-site or transported to a nearby hospital by bystanders before rescue teams arrived.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing. – DayakDaily
