KUCHING, Mar 10: Sarawak has identified 667 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) Statewide capable of accommodating over 165,000 victims that are on standby in the event of major flooding.

In a TVS news report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this reflects the State government’s level of preparedness in providing shelter and assistance to those affected.

“This also ensures that aid and protection can be delivered to victims promptly,” he said at a Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) ceremony held at a hotel here on Monday (Mar 9).

Uggah, who is also Sarawak JPBN chairman, said that as of March 8, 69 PPS have been opened Statewide, affecting 7,588 victims from 2,241 households—in which 20,591 personnel from various agencies have been mobilised.

He added that the disaster management operations involved cooperation among multiple agencies, including the State, divisional, and district governments, security forces, technical agencies, logistics teams, and volunteers.

“JPBN not only channels aid but also serves as the backbone of disaster management in Sarawak.

“We always ensure that disaster management machinery is on standby for the people’s safety,” he said. — DayakDaily
