65 yo man dies after three-vehicle collision near Jakar

SARIKEI, Dec 26: An elderly man had succumbed to his injuries after a three-vehicle accident at KM 435, Jalan Betong/Sarikei/Meradong near Jakar section of the Pan Borneo Highway, yesterday (Dec 25).

Sarikei District Police Chief P/Supt Aswandy Anis stated that the 65-year-old victim, identified as Wong Luk Ing from Sarikei, was driving a Perodua Kembara at the time of the crash.

“He sustained severe injuries to his head and chest and succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Sarikei Hospital,” he said in a statement.

The accident, which occurred around 9.30am, involved two Toyota Hilux vehicles in addition to the Perodua Kembara.

Initial investigations revealed that a Toyota Hilux, driven by a 57-year-old man from Bintulu heading toward Betong, entered the opposite lane and collided with the Perodua Kembara traveling from Jakar toward Jalan Jongkong. A second Toyota Hilux, trailing the Kembara, then rear-ended it.

“Both Hilux drivers escaped uninjured,” said Aswandy.

He added that police are continuing their investigations and have urged witnesses or anyone with information to contact Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Ahmad Mustaqim Idris at 010-4427240 or visit the nearest police station.

Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously, especially during the festive season, to ensure their safety and that of others on the road.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – DayakDaily
