64yo woman arrested in Kuching for alleged human trafficking

KUCHING, Oct 11: A 64-year-old woman has been arrested by police in Kuching to assist in an investigation into a human trafficking case.

Kuching District Police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah stated that the arrest was made following a raid on a house at Jalan Chawan on Oct 10 at 6pm.

During the operation, two foreign women, aged between 20 and 30, were rescued, believed to be victims of forced labor.

“The suspect has been remanded to assist with the investigation,” Mohd Farhan said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Act 2007.

Mohd Farhan urged anyone with information regarding the case to contact Investigation Officer ASP Chris Olsen Ramlee at 082-241133.

He also encouraged the public to report any instances of forced labor by reaching out to IPD Kuching at 082-244444 or visiting their nearest police station. — DayakDaily
