KUCHING, Nov 26: A total of 64 parcels of land previously under the Federal Lands Commissioner (FLC), including a parcel in Melikin issued in 1974 for the construction of a health clinic, have been returned to the Sarawak government.
Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the parcels, covering 62.9 hectares (155 acres) in total, were officially registered as State Land on April 1, 2024, and Nov 14, 2025.
Responding to a question by Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, he said the State Government would ensure that the land is planned and utilised for developments that meet current needs within the respective areas.
“Several factors had contributed to the land remaining undeveloped while under FLC ownership.
“Firstly, there were no funds or approved allocations from the federal government for development on these parcels. Secondly, nearby land had already been developed for the same intended purposes,” he explained during the question-and-answer session in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Sitting today.
Of the 64 parcels returned, he confirmed that one is located within Bukit Semuja, namely Lot 877 Block 9 Melikin Land District, which was issued to the FLC on Feb 28, 1974, specifically for a health clinic.
He added that the Sarawak government will now determine the most suitable development plans to ensure the lands benefit the people. — DayakDaily
