63yo man swept away by flash flood in Lawas

KUCHING, Nov 9: A 63-year-old man is feared to have drowned after he was swept by flash flood currents in Lawas.

According to a report from Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre today, they were alerted to the incident at 11.30pm on Wednesday (Nov 8).

A team from Bomba Lawas was informed on the matter and deployed the next day due to safety reasons in view of weather conditions and the need to travel via logging road at night in order to reach the location.


Based on the report, the victim, identified as Silas Sudai, is believed to have been checking the water level on a submerged road that connects Lawas to Long Sukang during the flash flood occurrence before he was swept away by the strong current.

Following that, an initial search was carried out by locals but the missing man was not found.

At 6.54am today, firefighters from Bomba Lawas arrived at the location and a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched. — DayakDaily
