MUKAH, Jan 5: A total of 90 out of 142 individuals arrested under the Dangerous Drugs Act in the district last year have been charged in court.
Mukah District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Muhamad Rizal Alias said the number represented more than 63 per cent of the arrests made.
“Of the total, only two cases or three suspects were investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 last year,” he said today.
Muhamad Rizal said the two cases involved a 40-year-old roti canai trader who was arrested on Oct 10, 2021 and two local men aged 33 and 25 who were detained on Dec 23.
“The three suspects were arrested on suspicion of being involved in drug abuse activities and possession of methamphetamine, and the case is currently undergoing trial in court,” he said.
Regarding the amount of seizures, Muhamad Rizal said methamphetamine type drugs amounted to the highest amount seized by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Mukah District Police Headquarters (IPD).
“A total of 319.78 grammes of the drug was seized, followed by cannabis (15.09 grammes) and 35 Nospan pills,” he said. — DayakDaily
