KUCHING, Oct 16: A total of 61 school projects are expected to be completed next year under the implementation of the Public Works Department (JKR) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE).
In a TVS news, Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the projects reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure nationwide and addressing overcrowding issues in existing schools.
“These projects, implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), will continue into the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP),” he told reporters after attending the handover ceremony of the newly completed Precinct 15 School Complex in Putrajaya on Wednesday (Oct 15).
Nanta added that JKR is currently managing around 1,250 school projects under the MOE at various stages of implementation across the country.
“Of these, 321 projects are in the planning phase, 79 are undergoing procurement or tender processes, 82 are in the design phase, 454 are under construction, while 309 have been completed and handed over to the MOE,” he said.
He further noted that all projects adhere to the government’s policy mandating at least 70 per cent utilisation of the Industrialised Building System (IBS) for government construction projects, including new schools.
Highlighting one of the success stories, Nanta said the Precinct 15 Putrajaya School Complex, handed over yesterday, was completed ahead of schedule.
Valued at RM117 million, the project was delivered 45 days earlier than planned and constructed using over 70 per cent IBS components, alongside advanced technologies such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Level of Development (LOD) 500. — DayakDaily
