60yo man missing after boat collides with jetty, capsizes in Dalat river

DALAT, July 18: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been launched for a 60-year-old man who went missing after he fell into Batang Oya, Kampung Tanam Seberang, here today.

According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 3.50pm, and firefighters from the Mukah station were deployed.

It was noted that at around 1.30pm, the caller reported seeing a boat collide with a jetty near a house before capsizing. Upon checking, it was found that the victim was no longer in the boat and was believed to have fallen into the river.

The SAR operation commenced using 20 boats belonging to local villagers, focusing on the area where the victim was reported to have fallen, covering a radius of approximately 50 to 100 metres from the incident site.

At 6pm, the operation was suspected due to safety concerns and will resume at 7am tomorrow (July 19).

The victim has been identified as Henry Stamslaus Secon. — DayakDaily
