KAPIT, Jan 16: A fatal road accident claimed the life of a 60-year-old man after his vehicle plunged into a ravine along Jalan Mujong Bukit Banyau here yesterday (Jan 15).
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 8.17am, and firefighters from the Kapit Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Kapit) were dispatched to the scene, located about 44 kilometres away.
Upon arrival at 9.05am, the rescue team found that the vehicle had fallen into a ravine estimated to be about 20 feet deep.
Due to narrow road conditions and steep embankments, fire engines were unable to access the site, prompting the officer-in-charge to proceed using a Hilux vehicle.
The team descended into the ravine using rescue ropes and brought along a stretcher.
The victim, identified as 60-year-old Robin Lubang, was found trapped inside the vehicle.
He was successfully extricated and assessed by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team before being brought up to the roadside.
However, the victim was confirmed dead at the scene and was subsequently handed over to the police for further action.
The operation ended at 11.02am. — DayakDaily
