LUNDU, Dec 27: A 60-year-old man believed to have fallen into a river in Kampung Kelaoh was found dead after a three-day search and rescue (SAR) operation.
The Lundu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that the body of Jokepli Hamidi was discovered by a rescue team comprising local villagers about 300 meters downstream from where he fell at 8.27am this morning.
The deceased was transported to Haji Mahyan jetty before being handed over to the police for further action. His remains were later sent to Lundu Hospital for a post-mortem.
The victim was initially reported missing after falling into the river while tidying his boat near a jetty in Kampung Kelaoh on the morning of Dec 25.
According to a witness, the man called for help while attempting to swim back to the riverbank. The witness prepared his boat and went out to assist, but when he arrived, the man was no longer visible, likely swept away by the strong current. – DayakDaily
