KUCHING, July 13: About 600 people, including researchers, environmentalists and scientists, are expected to attend the 18th Malaysian Forestry Conference (MFC) 2018, which will be held here from July 31-Aug 2.

Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) director Hamden Mohammad said the conference is themed ‘Advancing Sustainable Forestry through Digitalisation & Technology’, which is consistent with the state government’s policy to move towards the digital economy.

“Besides foresters, researchers, environmentalists and scientists, the conference is also open to those who are interested to know more about the subject matter. There will be 97 working papers and 24 presentations during the four-day conference,” Hamden told reporters after a soft launching of the 18th MFC at Wisma Sumber Alam here today.

He added this would be the sixth time Sarawak played host to the event, which is organised on a rotational basis since its inception in 1996.

During the conference, there will also be side activities, including an exhibition by FDS.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to officiate at the opening ceremony, while State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani is scheduled to close the conference.
