KUCHING, May 12: A new Covid-19 cluster identified at the Asia Villa housing estate here has infected 15 individuals with infections spread to three generations of contact and one fatality reported.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, reported that seven new Covid-19 clusters have emerged in Sarawak today, out of which six were detected in Kuching.

The State Health Department has identified three ‘generations’ of positive Covid-19 cases that were linked to this Asia Villa Cluster in Kuching here.

The spread of infection in this community cluster involved three generations, meaning that the index case has spread the virus to not only its close contacts, but subsequently also to another person who had contact with the latter.

There was also one death reported from the Asia Villa Cluster while 83 individuals related to the cluster have been screened for Covid-19.

Out of the 83 individuals who were swabbed, 15 tested positive and 68 individuals are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab tests.

SDMC said there were no new cases emerging from the Asia Villa Cluster while those who have tested positive have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching to be isolated and for treatment.

All close contacts linked to the cluster have been identified and moved into quarantine.
