6 individuals, subsidised diesel worth RM26k seized during ‘Ops Tiris’ in Kuching

KUCHING, Jan 6: Sarawak Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has arrested six individuals and seized approximately 12,000 liters of subsidised diesel worth RM26,000 during ‘Ops Tiris’ in Kuching.

The operation also led to the confiscation of a bonded lorry and a tanker truck, with a total estimated seizure value of RM115,000.

Sarawak KPDN director Matthew Dominic Barin, in a statement said that the case is being investigated under Section 20 (1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possession of controlled items without the controller’s permission.

“The total value of the seizure is estimated to be worth RM115,000.

“The case is being investigated under Section 20 (1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possession of controlled items without the controller’s permission,” he said.

Meanwhile, Matthew said from January until December 2023, Sarawak KPDN has produced a total of 233 cases under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 with a seizure value of RM12,045,688.15 and a compound value of RM827,000.00.

He revealed that Sarawak KPDN enforcement officers have carried out 991 inspections of petrol stations and diesel oil wholesalers throughout the state of Sarawak since March 2023 under Ops Tiris to ensure that the traders involved comply with the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the regulations under it.

“Further investigation will be carried out under the The Control of Supplies Act 1961 to identify individuals or companies involved in the activities or distribution chain of diesel, including its sources and distribution by any irresponsible parties,” he added.

He also urged members of the public to continue to help the ministry by providing information on any activity of misappropriation of controlled and subsidised goods.
