5th PASC Inter-Primary School Swim Meet seeks to unearth local talent

5th PASC Inter-Primary School Swim Meet competition to be held on May 22.

KUCHING, April 20: Young swimmers in Kuching and Kota Samarahan will have the chance to rise to stardom in the 5th PASC Inter-Primary School Swimming Competition at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre on May 22 from 8am to 5pm.

Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) advisor and head coach Voon Yong Hui said the competition is a platform for swimmers to display their talent as well as to learn sportsmanship, how to set goals and the value of hard work.

“For the first time in almost two-and-a-half years, we are set to return to full-scale competition.

“The reduction in sports participation is a concern but I am confident that this will improve as we start to see the gradual return to sports with outdoor facilities re-opening and children returning to schools,” he said in a statement today.

Trophies await the ‘Best Boy’ and ‘Best Girl’ teams and also the top swimmers in each age group.

Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to individual and team events (relay) competed over 50m to 100m distances in categories of freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly, along with a certificate of participation for all swimmers.

During the 4th PASC Inter-Primary School Swimming Competition in 2019, a total of 242 pupils from 33 primary schools took part.

The competition saw 34 new records set out of 100 events, and SJK Chung Hua No. 4 won the overall championship.

They were winners of the 1st edition in 2016 and 2nd edition in 2017 before playing second fiddle to St Joseph Private Primary School in 2018. — DayakDaily
