SIBU, Jan 12: The Sarawak government plans to expand the 585 Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) sites Statewide to provide high-quality internet access and empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs), says Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi.
Speaking at a press conference after the launching ceremony of MySRBN in Kampung Betanak today, Julaihi said that MySRBN is expected to help rural communities increase their participation in the digital economy, which includes online businesses.
“More than 90 per cent of businesses in Malaysia, including Sarawak, are from the SME category,” he said in the press conference as quoted in a TVS news report today.
At the same time, he said that the MySRBN uses the Sarawak Multimedia Authority Rural Telecommunications (SMART) tower built by the Sarawak Digital Economic Corporation (SDEC) and expressed hope that MySRBN can also be provided at National Digital Network (JENDELA) towers throughout Sarawak.
“The government is in discussions with SDEC and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to coordinate this facility aimed at expanding MySRBN coverage throughout Sarawak,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and UKAS) cum Semop assemblyman, Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Tanjong Manis MP, Yusuf Abd Wahab; Igan MP, Ahmad Johnie Zawawi; and SDEC chief executive officer Dato Sudarnoto Osman were also present at the event. — DayakDaily
