57yo man arrested in Kanowit after allegedly slashing wife, daughter at Sibu home

SIBU, Oct 29: A 57-year-old man suspected of attacking his wife and daughter with a sharp weapon at a house along Jalan Permai Jaya here early this morning has been arrested by police in Kanowit at about 4pm today.

Sibu District Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was detained less than 24 hours after the incident, following swift action by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) teams from the Sibu and Kanowit district police headquarters.

“We successfully apprehended the suspect in Kanowit around 4.15pm. In the incident, which occurred at about 6am, the suspect allegedly used a sharp object to inflict injuries on his 46-year-old wife and 20-year-old daughter before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle towards Kanowit,” he told TVS when contacted today.

According to Zulkipli, both victims sustained serious injuries. The wife remains in critical condition and is being treated in the Red Zone (ICU) of Sibu Hospital, while their daughter is reported to be in stable condition.

“The suspect’s wife suffered injuries to her neck and body, while their daughter sustained wounds to her head and arm, believed to have been caused by slashes from a sharp weapon,” he explained.

He added that police have also recovered a machete believed to have been used in the attack.

“The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon,” he said.

Zulkipli added that police are finalising the investigation, and the suspect will be brought to court for a remand application to assist with further investigation. — DayakDaily
