56yo man latest Covid-19 death in Sarawak, daily cases jump to 28

KUCHING, Jan 1: A 56-year-old man from Sibu is the latest new Covid-19 death reported in Sarawak today.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today, the man who passed away on Dec 31, 2021, had several comorbidities, namely high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and inflammatory liver disease.


The case has broken the 6th-day streak of zero daily Covid-19 fatalities for Sarawak after the last case was reported on Dec 25.

SDMC also informed that the number of Covid-19 positive cases in Sarawak today has jumped to 28 compared to 14 cases reported yesterday.

This brings the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 252,328.

Of the total cases, 13 are in Category 1 (no symptoms), and 15 are in Category 2 (mild symptoms).

By district, Kuching took the lead with 6 cases, followed by Sibu and Lawas with 5 cases each, Limbang (4), Miri (3), while Simunjan, Serian, Samarahan, Lundu and Kanowit recorded one case each.

Thirty other districts did not record any new cases today.

As of today, no new clusters have been reported in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
