51-year-old man with kidney failure is 3rd Covid-19 fatality in Miri

KUCHING, Jan 21: Miri records its third Covid-19 death in the district today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its Covid-19 daily report today, said the fatality Case 22 (Case 2,546) was a 51-year old Sarawakian man who was admitted into Miri Hospital on Jan 18 after experiencing breathing difficulties during his visit to a nephrology clinic.


His Covid-19 swab test on Jan 18 returned positive two days later on Jan 20 and his time of passing was confirmed at 4.50pm on the same day, Jan 20.

His medical history showed that he had failures in both of his kidneys and was on dialysis treatments.

With one new fatality case, the cumulative number of fatalities due to Covid-19 in the state has increased to 22.

Sarawak today recorded 132 new Covid-19 cases with 62 cases in Sibu, Kanowit (46), Bintulu (12), Miri (5), Kuching (3), Dalat (1), Lubok Antu (1), Serian (1) and Selangau (1).

The cumulative number of positive cases in Sarawak has since then increased to 2,702.

Sibu remained the district with the highest single-day tally of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak of which 35 cases were from the Pasai Cluster, another 19 cases involved individuals who went for screening at Sibu health clinics while the remaining eight were health officers.

Moving on, in Kanowit all 46 cases were traced back to the Pasai Cluster that originated from Sibu.

In Bintulu, 10 cases were related to the Rakut Cluster, one from close contact tracing and another was a symptomatic screening case.

Miri recorded four cases from the Pasai CLuster and one case who had just returned from Sabah.

Kuching, on the other hand, reported two new cases from the Rakut Cluster and one from individual screening.

Dalat and Selangau reported one new case each, Serian detected one Covid-19 positive case who was swabbed the second time from an active case detection (ACD) in Icom Square, Kuching.

Lubok Antu reported one new case from close contact with Covid-19 positive cases.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported 92 new recoveries who have been discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Sibu and Miri Hospitals while 1,357 patients are still receiving treatment in the hospitals across the state.

Three cases in Sibu Hospital and one case in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) required breathing assistance but they are in stable conditions.

Today, there are 192 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases and 57 cases awaiting laboratory test results.

There are also 419 person-under-surveillance (PUS) who were registered into various hotels across Sarawak to be quarantined, and a total of 6,174 individuals under quarantine in 72 hotels throughout Sarawak while 53,710 PUS had completed their 14-day quarantine.— DayakDaily
